Is this weird?!?

Confession time: I collect my cats' whiskers.

No, I don't PLUCK them! Cats shead their whiskers naturally, and when I find them, I put them in my little whisker chalice. 😅

🤔Why do I do this:

-finding whiskers is kind of rare, so it feels too special to just throw them away

-my beans won't be around forever. When they're gone, I'll be glad I saved some small part of them

-I'm sentimental af. Enough said.

Do you think this is weird? Do you collect fallen whiskers? If you do, what do you do with them?

... Read moreIt's so interesting to see just how many of us wonder about collecting cat whiskers! When I first started my little collection in my small, dark blue glass chalice, I definitely thought, 'Am I the only one who does this?' But it turns out, it's a wonderfully niche community of cat lovers who cherish these tiny treasures. Beyond the deeply personal and sentimental reasons I shared – like having a tangible piece of my beloved 'beans' even after they're gone – there's a whole world of fascinating beliefs and ways people honor these precious finds. For many, finding a cat whisker isn't just about sentimentality; it's steeped in tradition and even superstition. Have you ever heard that finding a cat whisker brings good luck? Some cultures believe it's a sign of protection, prosperity, or even a wish coming true. Sailors, for instance, used to keep them for safe passage at sea, believing they held mystical powers. While I can't guarantee good fortune, there's a certain magic in discovering these delicate white cat whiskers, knowing they once helped my furbabies navigate their world. So, what exactly do people do with their collected whiskers? My little chalice is perfect for me, but the creativity out there is amazing! I've heard of people carefully placing them in tiny glass vials with cork stoppers, turning them into unique resin pendants or keychains, or even arranging them in a shadow box alongside photos and other small mementos. Imagine a tiny 'whisker jar' on your mantelpiece, a testament to your cat's quirky charm! The key is always to ensure these are naturally shed whiskers – never, ever plucked. Our cats need their whiskers for balance and sensing their environment, so we only collect what they've gracefully left behind. Finding these elusive little strands can sometimes feel like a treasure hunt. I usually find them in places my cats love to curl up – on their favorite blankets, in their napping spots, or even just casually on the floor near where they groom. It's always a little 'aha!' moment when I spot one. Each whisker holds a story, a silent memory of a purr, a gentle headbutt, or a playful pounce. Ultimately, whether you collect them in a small, dark blue glass chalice like mine, a delicate vase, or simply cherish the moment you find one, it's a beautiful way to connect with our feline companions. It celebrates their unique presence in our lives and provides a comforting reminder of the joy they bring. So, if you've ever wondered if collecting cat whiskers is weird, consider yourself in good company – it's a heartfelt tribute to our furry overlords!
