What groceries did I get this week? 🤔
Kroger and Walmart were the stops today 😂
Okay, so this week I decided to tackle the age-old question: Kroger or Walmart for my big grocery haul? I know many of you are always looking for the best deals and healthiest options for meal prep, and honestly, so am I! I hit up both stores to compare, and I've got some thoughts on where to find your weekly grocery trip essentials for healthy eating. First stop was Kroger. I always find their produce section really fresh, which is a huge plus when I'm stocking up on veggies and fruits for my meal prep. This trip, I focused on getting plenty of 'Veggies, starch, meal prep/quick items' – things like bell peppers, spinach, sweet potatoes, and some quinoa. Their selection of 'Meat, dairy, etc.' often has great sales, so I snagged some chicken breasts and Greek yogurt. I love that Kroger usually has a good variety of organic options too, which is important for my family. For 'Breakfast and snacks', I found some awesome deals on oats and a new granola bar brand to try. I also picked up some 'cranberry juiceee' – a must-have in my house! Then I headed over to Walmart. What I appreciate about Walmart is their sheer volume and often lower base prices, especially for pantry staples and some 'Frozen food' items. I find their 'quick items' section, like pre-cut fruits or salad kits, can be super convenient when I'm short on time during the week. This time, I was also on a mission for 'Baking supplies for a Birthday Cake' for an upcoming celebration, and Walmart definitely delivered on that front with a wider selection of sprinkles and unique cake mixes. I also made sure to grab some bulk rice and pasta, which are budget-friendly foundations for so many meal preps. So, which is better for healthy meal prep? Honestly, I think it depends on what you're prioritizing. If fresh, high-quality produce and specific organic dairy are your top concerns, Kroger often shines. I find their weekly ads for 'Meat, dairy, etc.' hard to beat. However, if you're looking to stretch your budget further on pantry staples, have a wider selection of 'Frozen food' or baking items, and appreciate the convenience of one-stop shopping, Walmart is a strong contender. For me, a mix is ideal! I might grab my fresh produce and specialized 'meal prep/quick items' at Kroger, and then visit Walmart for my bulk items, 'Baking supplies', and maybe some specific 'Puffs' or 'Chcelos' for the kids. A quick tip for meal prepping: always start with a plan! Knowing what meals you want to make helps you stick to your list and avoid impulse buys. Look for versatile ingredients like chicken, eggs, and plenty of 'Veggies, starch' that can be used in multiple dishes. And don't forget to 'romanticice my life' with a bunch of 'flowers' – because even grocery shopping can be a little treat! I try to keep my weekly haul around a certain budget, and by comparing prices between both stores, I can really make my '1 LB)453g' of meat or '$10' worth of produce go a long way. Happy shopping and healthy eating!
