Why we spend so much of life waiting

What if God never meant for life to only feel sacred on Sundays?

Think about how we talk about the week.

Saturday night is the night you’re supposed to live.

Sunday is the day of God.

Monday is terrible.

Wednesday means you’re halfway through the struggle.

Thursday works hard for a living.

Friday is when life finally begins again.

But who made that up?

Somewhere along the way we started organizing our lives around waiting.

Waiting for the weekend.

Waiting for the holiday.

Waiting for the moment when everything finally feels special.

So most of life quietly becomes something we’re just trying to get through.

I used to feel that after Christmas.

The whole month before felt magical.

Decorating. Shopping. Preparing.

And then suddenly the day would come…

and just like that it was over.

It took me years to understand why that always felt a little sad.

It wasn’t because Christmas wasn’t good.

It was because I spent so much time waiting for the moment that I didn’t know how to simply live inside it while it was happening.

A mentor once told me something that didn’t make sense at the time.

She said:

“Enjoy the packing.”

And I remember thinking…

Who enjoys packing?

But after moving a few times…

after watching my kids grow up…

after realizing some chapters of life were quietly ending…

I finally understood.

Packing is the moment right before something ends.

And once it’s over…

it’s over.

So maybe the lesson isn’t to wait for the moment.

Maybe the lesson is simply this:

Enjoy the packing.

Healing is around the corner — just keep walking 💜🙏🏻

... Read more"Most of life happens in the in-between." This phrase resonates deeply when we consider how much time we spend waiting rather than living. In my own experience, I noticed the pattern of waiting around major events—holidays, weekends, vacations—only to feel a subtle sadness when those moments passed quickly. I realized this isn’t unique; many of us fall into the trap of counting down to the next ‘special’ day without savoring the ordinary days leading up to it. One way I learned to shift this mindset was by consciously appreciating the small actions often overlooked—like the 'packing' before a move or event. Initially, I didn’t see the appeal in packing, associating it with stress and endings. But over time, I began to recognize packing as a metaphor for being present in the transitional times: those in-between moments where reflection and intention can flourish. By embracing the moments before change, whether it’s preparing a home for a move, getting ready for a holiday, or even the quiet hours of a workday, I started to find peace and gratitude. Life doesn’t have to be only sacred or joyful on specific days like Sunday or a holiday—it can be meaningful every day if we choose to live fully in the ‘in-between.’ This outlook helped me manage impatience and restlessness, teaching me that waiting isn’t wasted time but an opportunity for growth and healing. So, I encourage you to enjoy the packing—the preparation, the quiet, and the anticipation—because those are the times when life truly happens. Healing and joy are not just destinations; they live in the journey itself. Keep walking, keep noticing, and the waiting becomes part of the living."
