Dont abandon yourself

SHADOW WORK: MIRROR WORK — PART 14

WHAT REAL ACCOUNTABILITY LOOKS LIKE

SHADOW WORK:

This is every moment you start abandoning yourself emotionally.

Somebody pulls away…

and now you feel like you need to prove your worth.

Somebody does not choose you…

and suddenly you start comparing yourself to somebody else.

Somebody changes their energy…

and now your peace is gone because you are making their behavior determine your value.

That’s the shadow.

The moment you stop choosing yourself and start handing your worth over to everybody else.

MIRROR WORK:

This is the interruption.

The moment you stop in the middle of the spiral, look at yourself, and come back to yourself.

And the repair sounds like:

“I am perfect the way I am. Perfectly imperfect.”

“There is only one me. Nobody can replace me.”

“I do not need to compete with anybody.”

“I do not need to prove my worth to be loved.”

“They do not pay my rent.”

“They do not pay my bills.”

“They are not in charge of me.”

“I answer to myself.”

“I am already enough without the performance.”

You are everything.

You do not need to do anything.

That’s the repair.

Not attacking yourself.

Not pretending you do not care.

Just reminding yourself who you are before you abandon yourself again.

Because real accountability is not blaming yourself for spiraling.

It’s catching yourself in the moment you start forgetting your value and choosing yourself again.

I speak what I become. Healing is around the corner—you just have to keep walking 💜🙏🏻

... Read moreIn my experience, real emotional accountability begins the moment you recognize the patterns of self-abandonment in your daily life. It might feel like a subtle shift when someone distances themselves or when you find yourself comparing your worth to others, but these are pivotal moments to pause and practice internal self-reflection — what this article calls mirror work. One practical technique I find helpful is to create small daily reminders of your inherent value that don’t depend on external circumstances. For example, repeating affirmations like “I am perfect the way I am” or “I answer to myself” can gently re-condition the mind to stop handing over control of your peace to others’ behaviors. It’s about interrupting the negative spiral before it deepens. Accountability isn’t about harsh self-judgment or blame when emotions get overwhelming. Instead, it’s about catching yourself mid-spiral and choosing to return to your core sense of worth. This shift transforms how we relate to difficult feelings—turning them from threats into signs to practice self-love and self-care. This approach has been transformative for me during challenging times when I would otherwise seek validation outside myself. Accepting that "They do not pay my rent" or "I am already enough without performance" helps maintain peace even when relationships or situations change unexpectedly. Furthermore, embracing vulnerability rather than running from it can deepen this accountability. By acknowledging discomfort and leaning into it rather than defending against it, the process of healing becomes more authentic and lasting. Ultimately, the journey toward healing and authentic accountability is ongoing. But the commitment to stop abandoning yourself emotionally and reclaiming your intrinsic value every day is a powerful step toward freedom and peace.
