Goodreads Adds A DNF Shelf… Let’s Talk About It

Goodreads just added a DNF (Did Not Finish) shelf… and honestly? I’m here for it 📚

There’s always been a little stigma around not finishing a book — like you have to push through no matter what. But reading shouldn’t feel like a chore.

I’ve started to look at it differently:

Trying a new book is like trying a new food. Sometimes you love it… and sometimes it’s just not for you. And that’s okay.

I personally follow Nancy Pearl’s Rule of 50:

Give a book 50 pages, and if it’s not working, you have full permission to move on.

Because at the end of the day, there are too many good books out there to stay stuck in one you’re not enjoying.

So tell me 👀

📖 Do you DNF books or do you always finish what you start?

Oh yes, I was excited so now it can match my fable account.

I’m a firm believer of the DNF. I just can’t “push through” anymore. It has never once been worth it for me in all these yrs. If I start out not liking the book, and am halfway through/first few chapters in—I’m not going to like it still.
