April TBR Priorities: 6 Books I’m Reading FIRST

Starting April with a plan… at least for now.

These are the 6 books at the top of my TBR this month—some finally came through on my library waitlists and one is queued up on Audible. These are my priority reads before I let my mood and the algorithm take over for the rest of the month.

I’ve learned that having a small, intentional starting list keeps me focused, but still leaves room for flexibility once new books inevitably find their way to me.

Let’s see how many of these I actually get to before I go off-script. What’s at the top of your TBR right now?

4/6 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's talk about the absolute thrill of finally diving into a book that's been buzzing everywhere, especially when it's hailed as a 'winner for readers' favorite mystery & thriller.' For my April TBR, that book is unequivocally 'The Guest List' by Lucy Foley. I've heard so much about its intricate plot and atmospheric setting, and honestly, the anticipation is half the fun! What makes a book like 'The Guest List' a consistent reader favorite in the mystery and thriller genre? From my own reading experience, it often comes down to a few key ingredients: a truly immersive setting (like a remote island wedding, in this case!), a cast of complex characters with hidden agendas, and a central 'whodunit' that keeps you guessing until the very last page. Readers love a story that pulls them in and doesn't let go, offering those delicious twists and turns that make you gasp out loud. It's not just about solving the crime; it's about peeling back the layers of human psychology and relationships. This is precisely why I prioritize books with such strong recommendations on my monthly TBR. Knowing that a book has resonated deeply with so many others, especially earning accolades like 'reader favorite,' adds an extra layer of excitement. It feels like you're about to embark on a journey that's almost guaranteed to be captivating. Beyond 'The Guest List,' my TBR often includes a mix. While I adore a good mystery, I also like to balance it out. For example, the OCR mentioned 'Hello Beautiful' by Ann Napolitano, which sounds like a rich, character-driven story, a perfect contrast. And who can resist a heartwarming read like 'The Bromance Book Club' by Lyssa Kay Adams for something light and fun? My goal is always to have a diverse spread of emotions and experiences lined up. If you're also looking to curate your own 'reader favorite' mystery list, I always recommend checking out Goodreads ratings and reviews. Look for patterns in what people love – is it the suspense, the character development, or the unexpected ending? That's how I often stumble upon my next obsession. Sometimes, a book like 'Wild Eyes' by Elsie Silver might catch your eye with its intriguing title and cover, even if it's a different genre, because good storytelling transcends categories. Ultimately, whether it's a gripping thriller like 'The Guest List' or a heartwarming romance, the best books are the ones that transport you. And starting the month with a highly-rated mystery? That's just setting myself up for a fantastic reading adventure. What are your go-to sources for finding those 'must-read' favorites?

Hey! I’ve always been an advocate for reading, but as I’ve gotten older and life priorities shifted, it was hard to get back in the groove as once before. Now, I try to read as often as I can. Here are some of my favorite self improvement based books, for people with short attention spans like me!
