I’m super intentional about what my kids listen to — and that means we skip mainstream music like Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and most main stream music. Not because the beats aren’t catchy… but because lyrics matter.
I truly believe the words we take in shape our thoughts, our values, and even who we’re becoming. And as a mom, it’s my job to protect their little minds from messages that don’t line up with the kind of character I’m trying to teach at home.
So in our house, we choose uplifting music, positive messages, and things that actually feed the soul — not drain it. 💛🎶
Not everyone will agree, and that’s okay… but this is what works for us.

Genres like classical, jazz, folk, and some forms of country or contemporary Christian music offer rich, wholesome lyrics and melodies that feed the soul rather than drain it. Additionally, there are many talented emerging artists who create music specifically geared toward family-friendly values. While some may feel that children will inevitably be exposed to all kinds of music regardless of parental filtering, engaging in discussions about lyrics can empower kids to think critically about the messages they hear. This approach helps them develop discernment and make healthier choices independently as they grow. Every family is different, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. However, being intentional about the music kids listen to — focusing on words that uplift rather than degrade — is one way parents can actively contribute to nurturing their children’s character and outlook on life.
I mean these are valid reasons, most of their songs aren't for kids and also it's YOUR kids, you should be able to choose how to raise them. You're doing great 👍
