My 2024 Resolution 🫶

I have had a bad relationship with food for as long as I can remember. I love food and when I'm happy I eat, when I'm sad I eat and when I'm STRESSED I eat..which happens a lot!

So naturally, I'm always going on "diets" and working out and trying to lose weight.

But I realized how unhealthy that was. It was affecting my mental health, ruining my relations and I was so hard on myself that I was literally losing sleep and my hair. And I realized I cannot continue like this anymore. I joined a gym class I actually enjoyed and whenever I would panic thinking of how I was not working out enough or not giving it my all, I stopped my thoughts and told myself to just enjoy. I ended up removing the massive pressure off of my workout routines and actually enjoyed it. Cause giving my 40% when I only had 40% is still giving it my 100%, right? And this isn't something that happened overnight, I was slowly coming to terms over the past year!

And before I knew it my relationship with food started improving too. Now, whenever I was stressed out, I turned to other things, like workout, reading, dancing, writing, basically everything that I enjoyed before I let my self worth be reduced to my food choices.

I'm still not 100% okay but I'm getting there. 🙃

Now, eating for me is more of a joy (clicking photos, creating a routine around it helps!) especially when I make a healthy living a lifestyle rather than just starving myself and crashing by night.

... Read moreAs we step into 2024, many individuals are reflecting on their resolutions, particularly around health and well-being. A significant part of this journey involves cultivating a positive relationship with food. Instead of viewing food merely as a fuel source or a way to cope with emotions, it can be celebrated and enjoyed. In 2024, let’s prioritize mindful eating by paying attention to our body’s hunger and fullness signals rather than the scale. Seeking joy in cooking and trying new recipes can transform mealtime into a creative outlet. Integrating foods that nourish both the body and the mind is essential for a healthier perspective on eating. In addition to nutrition, fostering a balanced workout routine that prioritizes enjoyment over obligation can alleviate the stress often associated with exercise. Fitness should empower us, enhancing our physical and mental well-being, rather than becoming another source of anxiety. In line with the New Year, popular trends such as the 'intuitive eating' movement encourage us to ditch the diet mentality and cultivate self-trust in our food choices. By recognizing that life is not solely about achieving a certain weight or appearance, we can find freedom in our eating habits. Remember, it's about progress, not perfection. Each step toward a healthier lifestyle is a victory worth celebrating. Embracing vulnerability and sharing our journeys, like the one surrounding our food relationship, can foster connection and encouragement in our communities as we all strive to be our best selves in 2024.
