The confidence blind spot…
Have you ever noticed how sometimes beginners can be confidently wrong about things they barely understand, while industry-savvy with years of experience seem to be too humble?
This is the Dunning–Kruger effect, a classic psychological theory. First proposed in 1999, the theory actually describes how people perceive their own competence. It is not a judgment itself, but it often hints at a sarcastic sense of humor: beginners with low skills tend to overestimate their ability, while those with expertise may underestimate themselves.
That said, confidence doesn’t always match competence. And the mismatch can shape how we perceive ourselves and each other more than we realize.
