Today is another year around the sun for me!
Today is my birthday.
May the gods guide me to live the fullest today.
Growing up as a twin we had to share everything. We shared everything from toys to snacks to flip phones. Birthday parties are a given. One year they finally made us each our own separate cakes/pies because we fought over what we wanted.
I’ve never gotten to be the birthday princess with a celebration just for me.
Everyone thinks twins are best friends. I don’t engage in contact with my twin.🙃 Growing up kids would come to the birthday party for my twin and no one would show up for me. My mom can confirm this. Yay. He always made sure I cried and felt insecure every birthday and holiday. Yay.
In adult hood it’s my husband and I driving around with a coffee to share. Maybe stop by my parent’s house to see them and my younger sibling for a bit. Then go home to play board games or something. We might window shop at a book store. I ’ve never gotten to really celebrate it with friends or anything. We were hoping to go to Asheville but Helene said no.
I hope one day we’ll be able to do a big trip or celebration for my birthday. We’re broke and Helene made it worse. My husband owes me multiple years of birthday presents because we never have the money at our birthdays. (His words) I just wanna be center of attention for one day. And no I didn’t get it for my wedding. That a whole other passionate rant.
😅More of a rant post. But let’s see what 27 brings me.
Growing up as a twin often comes with shared experiences, but it also brings unique challenges. Many twins find themselves in a cycle of shared birthday celebrations, leading to feelings of neglect on their special day. This post explores the emotional impact of such experiences on self-esteem and relationships. For those who celebrate their birthdays alone or with minimal attention, it can feel isolating in a society that often emphasizes grand celebrations. The journey to finding joy in these quieter moments can be a powerful narrative. As I navigate adulthood, I cherish simple moments with my husband, like sharing coffee or embarking on small adventures. Yet, there's a yearning for acknowledgment and a personal celebration. Moreover, birthdays serve as milestones prompting reflection on personal growth. It’s not just about aging but about appreciating individual journeys and the stories we create along the way. As I step into my late 20s, I encourage others to celebrate themselves too, finding joy in the ordinary and seeking out those magic moments that bring a sense of identity and fulfillment. Whether it’s through a solo trip or a cozy gathering with loved ones, each moment is a chance to celebrate life. Let's embrace our unique stories and form meaningful connections, no matter how small the celebration may seem.
