Lemon8 will be powered by TikTok.
Excuse me?
If you don’t merge your Lemon8 account with a TikTok account your Lemon8 account will be deleted May 2025.
AGAIN.
Excuse me??
I do not use tiktok. I refuse to and I am not allowed to. I had a good amount of followers and that app destroyed my mental wellbeing. My psych team and my husband had an intervention with me to delete it.
TikTok is toxic af.
I actually like Lemon8. 😭
What are yalls thoughts?
Update: I understand we can make a TikTok account and then maybe delete the app off our phones. TikTok caused me to go into inpatient. I’m not touching it at all. I’m also concerned that TikTok media will be on Lemon8. I’m not here for chaos. I’m here for a cozy community. I don’t seem to be the only one. It’s just my opinion. I’m happy you’ll continue to use the app with TikTok. Keep the app alive. ♥️
Hearing about the Lemon8-TikTok merge has definitely stirred up a lot of emotions, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. Many of us are grappling with the implications, especially when it comes to privacy and what this means for our beloved community. Let's talk about the big one: direct messages. The information I've seen clearly states that direct messages and private post features will be disabled. For me, this is a huge blow. I loved being able to connect one-on-one with other creators here, sharing tips and building genuine friendships. Now, with DMs gone, it feels like a vital part of the community interaction is being stripped away. It makes me wonder about the broader "tiktok privacy direct messages setting" implications as well. If TikTok is taking over, will their approach to privacy influence how we interact on Lemon8 even in public spaces? It's a valid concern for anyone who values their online interactions. Another point that's causing a lot of anxiety is the timeline. The information I've seen confirms that if you don't update and log in with TikTok, your Lemon8 account and all its data will be automatically deleted by May 2025. This looming deadline makes the decision feel urgent and forced. For those of us who have poured hours into creating content and building a following since Lemon8's initial launch, the idea of losing it all is heartbreaking. It’s not just about a lemon8 launch date anymore; it’s about the future of our digital space. What happens to all our saved posts, our drafts, our connections? It's a stark reminder that we don't truly own our digital presence. And what about potential issues during this transition? I've already seen questions pop up like 'what if my tiktok user not found profile when I try to link?' or 'what if I don't want my TikTok username to be public?' The details I've gathered mention that Lemon8 profile links will be public on TikTok by default. This is a significant change, especially if you've tried to keep your online personas separate. It raises questions about how our existing Lemon8 content will integrate and if our carefully curated feeds will suddenly be flooded with an entirely different type of content. It feels like a forced exposure, and for some, it might lead to a feeling of losing control over their online identity. I personally dread the thought of my cozy Lemon8 presence being linked directly to a platform I've actively avoided for personal wellbeing reasons. The information also highlights that TikTok data, including age, followers, and inferred interests, will be used to personalize and improve the Lemon8 experience according to TikTok's Privacy Policy. While personalization sounds good on the surface, for me, it just means more data being collected and potentially used in ways I'm not comfortable with. It's a huge shift from what I perceived Lemon8 to be, which was a more curated, less data-hungry platform. I think it's crucial for everyone to really read through TikTok's Privacy Policy and understand what they're agreeing to before making any decisions about linking their accounts. This isn't just about a platform update; it's about a fundamental change in how our information is handled and how our online lives will be intertwined.
