The 🍋8 Toxicity Is Crazy

This was the one nice sweet social media left and it’s been ruined. It’s as toxic as TikTok. I miss seeing gay and feminine posts. I miss the wholesome posts.

No matter if I ignore a post or what I’m still getting religious hateful posts. It’s gross.

... Read moreIt's truly heartbreaking to see a platform you once cherished start to change, and I completely resonate with the feeling that Lemon8's toxicity is growing. When I first joined, it felt like a breath of fresh air – a space brimming with creativity, genuine connection, and truly wholesome posts. I especially loved the diverse and inclusive content, seeing so many authentic gay and feminine posts that made me feel seen and celebrated. It was a stark contrast to the often overwhelming and negative energy found on other social media sites. But lately, I’ve been noticing a definite shift, and it’s not just you. The 'toxicity is crazy' feeling seems to be a shared experience for many users. My feed, which once felt so curated and uplifting, has started to show posts that are, frankly, disheartening. Like you, I've encountered a rise in judgmental, divisive, or even outright hateful content, sometimes disguised as 'religious' or 'opinion' pieces. It's frustrating when you try to ignore or skip these posts, only for similar ones to keep appearing, making the app feel less like a community and more like a battleground. It feels like the algorithm is pushing content that generates engagement, even if that engagement comes from outrage or disagreement, mimicking the patterns we've seen ruin other platforms. This shift begs the question: why is Lemon8 becoming toxic? It could be a natural growing pain as the platform expands, attracting a wider range of users with different intentions. Or perhaps, as content creators realize what gets clicks, even negative ones, the landscape changes. Regardless of the reason, it’s a bummer to see the unique charm of 'old Lemon8' fading. However, I believe we still have some power to shape our experience. It's not always easy, but actively curating your feed can make a huge difference. Don't hesitate to use the 'not interested' or 'report' functions on posts that don't align with the positive community you're looking for. Blocking accounts that consistently spread negativity is also a powerful tool. More importantly, actively engage with the content you do want to see – like those beautiful, wholesome posts, or the inspiring gay and feminine content. Liking, commenting, and sharing positive posts tells the algorithm what you value. We can also leverage hashtags like #oldlemon8, #wholesomecontent, #positivevibes, or specific community hashtags to find and connect with like-minded individuals. Building a supportive network is key. Let's not let the toxicity overwhelm us; instead, let's actively work together to reclaim the positive, inclusive spirit that drew us all to Lemon8 in the first place. By being intentional about what we consume and contribute, we can hopefully steer our feeds back towards the joyful, inspiring space we all remember and miss.
