St Francis Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light; and

where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that I may not so much seek

      to be consoled as to console,

      to be understood as to understand,

      to be loved as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive,

      it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

      and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Originating from St. Francis of Assisi, a revered figure in Christianity, this prayer emphasizes the importance of becoming instruments of peace in a troubled world. The prayer's line, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace," resonates deeply, encouraging individuals to actively engage in acts of kindness and understanding. By focusing on virtues such as forgiveness and selflessness, the prayer invites us to confront negativity with love and compassion. Moreover, the prayer teaches us that true fulfillment comes not from seeking our own comfort but from serving others. This selfless approach not only nurtures our spiritual growth but also fosters a sense of community. In the current global climate, where divisiveness and strife seem prevalent, the teachings encapsulated in the St. Francis Prayer are more relevant than ever. They prompt us to evaluate our daily actions and strive to create an environment of understanding and support, which can lead to healing and unity. Ultimately, embracing the wisdom of this prayer can transform our interactions and promote a more harmonious existence.
