I was honestly just tired of feeling like my brain was running my life.
Tired of the constant overwhelm.
The afternoon crashes.
The feeling like I had zero control over my focus, energy, or mood.
For a long time I thought this was just my ADHD and that I had to deal with it.
But the more I learned about stress and hormones, the more I realized my nervous system was completely fried.
My cortisol was through the roof.
My energy was all over the place.
My brain felt overstimulated constantly.
So instead of trying to force myself to be more productive, I started focusing on stabilizing my nervous system first.
These are the “silly simple” rules I try to live by now:
1. Get outside every morning
Sunlight first thing makes a huge difference for my brain.
2. Protect my sleep
Same time every night. Dark room. No scrolling until 1am.
3. Eat real food consistently
Protein, carbs, actual meals. My ADHD brain does not function when I forget to eat.
4. Move my body every day
Walking, lifting, stretching. Nothing crazy. Just movement.
5. Support my stress levels
Learning how to regulate my cortisol honestly helped my ADHD symptoms way more than I expected. My brain feels calmer and my energy is much steadier.
6. Reduce overstimulation where I can
More boundaries. Less chaos. More quiet.
None of this is groundbreaking.
But life doesn’t feel like hard mode anymore.
My brain is clearer.
My energy is more stable.
And I finally feel like I’m working with my body instead of constantly fighting it.
If you have ADHD and feel like your nervous system is always on edge, I get it.
