save this because this changed everything about how I understood my own body.

real energy feels steady. it builds through the day. it does not require caffeine to start or sugar to sustain. it does not crash at 2pm and disappear completely. it does not leave you lying awake at night unable to wind down.

stress hormone energy feels completely different.

it is that wired feeling that is not actually energy. it is your body in full blown survival mode pumping out cortisol and adrenaline just to keep you upright. it feels like being on all day and then crashing so hard you cannot function. it feels like needing more and more caffeine just to feel normal. it feels like being exhausted but unable to actually rest.

and most women have been running on stress hormones for so long they have completely forgotten what real energy actually feels like.

I was one of those women.

I thought I was just a tired person. I thought I just needed more coffee. I thought this was just what life felt like.

and then I actually addressed what was causing it.

and I finally understood what real energy was supposed to feel like.

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I can say that recognizing the difference between real energy and stress-induced energy was life-changing. For years, I thought feeling wired but exhausted was normal—constantly needing caffeine, crashing mid-afternoon, and struggling to wind down at night. Once I understood that this was due to elevated cortisol and adrenaline—stress hormones keeping me in survival mode—it all made sense. One key insight is that real energy feels stable and sustainable. It builds gradually without sudden spikes or crashes. Unlike stress hormone energy, it doesn’t spike your heart rate or make you jittery. Instead, it fuels your body gently throughout the day, reducing the need for stimulants. Managing this imbalance involved lifestyle changes like prioritizing quality sleep, improving gut health, and incorporating stress reduction techniques such as mindfulness and gentle exercise. Over time, I noticed my energy became consistent, my sleep improved, and my overall mood stabilized. I highly recommend women experiencing chronic tiredness or the afternoon crash to consider how much of their energy is driven by stress hormones like cortisol. Understanding this helped me to redefine self-care and reclaim a more vibrant, sustainable vitality.
