you are reaching for caffeine the second the afternoon crash hits. that 2pm cortisol drop is your body’s natural rhythm. caffeine spikes it back up artificially and keeps it elevated straight through bedtime. that is why you cannot sleep at night.

you are skipping lunch or eating too late. your blood sugar crashing in the afternoon triggers a cortisol spike to compensate. your body reads it as an emergency every single time.

you are jumping straight from work mode into evening with no transition. your nervous system needs a buffer between go mode and rest mode. without it cortisol stays elevated straight through the night.

you are scrolling stressful content during your afternoon break. your nervous system cannot tell the difference between a threat on your screen and a real one. it responds to both the same way.

you are pushing through the crash instead of listening to it. your body is telling you something. white knuckling through it with more caffeine and willpower is making everything worse.

you are eating something high in sugar to get through the afternoon. the blood sugar spike that follows creates another cortisol spike. and the cycle keeps going all night.

your afternoon is either setting you up for deep sleep and recovery or guaranteeing you wake up exhausted and puffy tomorrow.
