i spent years in that cycle. restrict, fall off, restart, repeat. i thought i just wasn’t disciplined enough. i thought something was wrong with me.

turns out my cortisol was completely wrecked. and when cortisol is high, your body physically craves sugar. it holds onto fat on purpose. it kills your motivation at the cellular level.

when i finally stopped restricting harder and started actually supporting my cortisol, the cravings stopped. the energy came back. 27 pounds came off without white knuckling it every single day.

Stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness meditation, adequate sleep, balanced nutrition rich in whole foods and healthy fats, and gentle exercise can all help lower cortisol levels. Additionally, avoiding chronic restriction and listening to your body's signals can prevent the vicious cycle of stress-induced hunger and fatigue. If you feel stuck in a cycle of 'starting over' and breaking promises to yourself, consider shifting the focus from sheer willpower to hormonal balance. Embracing your body's needs—rather than resisting them—can open the door to sustainable weight loss and improved well-being.
