It truly was an unforgettable family vacation on the Mississippi Coast, and I’m so glad we decided to make those precious MEMORIES there! As a traveling momma, I know how important it is to find spots that truly cater to everyone, and the Mississippi Coast definitely delivered. If you're wondering about things to do on the coast with kids, let me tell you, it's more than just beautiful beaches for shell collecting and fishing (though those are fantastic!). We based ourselves near Pass Christian, which has a charming small-town feel, but we also explored a bit. For a great family beach adventure, consider visiting Gulfport or Biloxi. Gulfport boasts the Mississippi Aquarium, which is a huge hit with kids, offering interactive exhibits and marine life encounters. In Biloxi, the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art offers interesting architecture and sometimes family-friendly workshops. For a bit of history and nature, the Gulf Islands National Seashore offers ranger-led programs and trails perfect for exploring. One thing we absolutely loved was how uncrowded the beaches were. Visiting right after hurricane Francine meant we had vast stretches of sand almost to ourselves – perfect for the kids to run freely and for us to truly unwind. If you’re planning a Mississippi family vacation, don't shy away from visiting during shoulder seasons or even shortly after a weather event (once it's safe, of course!) if you prefer a quieter experience. It made for such a serene beach adventure. When it comes to kid-friendly vacation spots near me (or near the Mississippi Coast!), you’re also well-positioned for day trips. Ocean Springs, with its artsy vibe and delicious food, is a short drive away, and New Orleans is only about an hour and a half to two hours, making it a feasible day trip if you're up for it. For those traveling from within Mississippi, Gulfport is roughly an hour and a half from Jackson, MS, so it’s quite accessible for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation in Mississippi. Don't forget to pack essentials like sunscreen, beach toys, and maybe even a small cooler for snacks and drinks. I found that having plenty of water and easy-to-grab snacks kept everyone happy between our beach adventures. The Mississippi Coast offers such a wonderful blend of relaxation and activity, making it a top contender for future family trips.
