Are you located in the Chicago land area? If so you must make your way to Chinatown to visit this Chinese bbq restaurant, GAO Kabob! 10/10 I highlyyyyy recommend! This was my second visit and I plan on having many more. Prices were extremely reasonable! Everything was amazing, the kabobs were made to perfection, the mussels and oysters in my opinion were to die for I would return just for those! And the star of this show was the seafood boil 10/10 however it is only shrimp with the head on which is something I do not prefer but they were amazing! Again everything was amazing, on the weekends there is a bit of wait but the great thing is this place is open until 2AM on the weekends. Be sure to check them out if you can!
If you’re a foodie exploring Chicago, especially in the Chinatown area, GAO Kabob is truly a gem worth visiting. From my experience, what makes this place stand out is not only the quality of the food but also the vibrant atmosphere you get late into the night. The kabobs are perfectly seasoned and grilled, offering a delightful blend of smoky and savory flavors that are hard to forget. One highlight for me, aside from the kabobs, was their mussels and oysters. They’re exceptionally fresh and prepared in a way that brings out their natural sweetness and briny richness. I found these dishes so enjoyable that they alone could be a reason to return. Another must-try is the seafood boil. Although it mainly features shrimp with the head on—a presentation not everyone may prefer—the seasoning and taste are phenomenal. The spices soak into every bite, creating a memorable flavor profile. Because the restaurant stays open until 2AM on weekends, it’s perfect for late-night cravings, and while there might be a bit of a wait during busy times, it’s definitely worth it. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making it accessible for casual dining or a fun night out with friends. If you’re visiting Chinatown or live nearby, I can’t recommend GAO Kabob enough. It’s a great spot to experience authentic Chinese BBQ and seafood flavors that keep people coming back for more.
