I finished my first goth/thriller/horror
I’m weirdly, disturbed by this book - it was written well but I don’t think I’ll read another one 😅
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - author wrote this book great, I finished it in two days and was never bored
⭐️⭐️ - overall plot, I wanted to see what the main character was going to do - just trying to understand her and the family left me feeling off about it
Reading goth, thriller, and horror novels can be a uniquely immersive experience, blending dark themes with psychological depth. This particular book, which took just two days to finish, stood out for its excellent writing style that managed to keep boredom at bay. However, the unsettling atmosphere and complex character dynamics, especially within the protagonist's family, created a lingering sense of discomfort that wasn’t easy to shake off. I found that the book’s strength lay in the author’s ability to craft a narrative that pulls you in quickly, yet the plot development left me searching for more clarity around the main character’s motivations and family background. This ambiguity can be both a compelling element and a source of frustration depending on the reader’s preferences. The experience reminded me of the importance of pacing and emotional engagement in horror and thriller genres, where the fear or disturbance often comes from what’s left unsaid as much as what’s directly described. For readers who appreciate a strong authorial voice and atmospheric settings, this book is worth a try. But if you prefer more straightforward or resolved storylines, it might feel off-putting. Additionally, books like this challenge readers to confront discomforting themes and psychological complexity, which can be both enriching and exhausting. When choosing similar titles, consider whether you enjoy exploring ambiguous and psychologically intense stories, as this book exemplifies that style well.
