I trusted the system. It broke me.
I trusted the system. It broke me.
This shame was never mine to carry—and if you’ve been harmed, it’s not yours either.
The blame belongs where it started.

We have always been told we can refuse medical and psychiatric care. This has never been the truth. There are multiple examples to give. Here is one: If a psychiatrist feels treatment and/or medication is necessary, they can override your decision with an understanding that you aren’t stable enough to understand your condition. They can override an advocates decisions with this same reasoning. When it involves medical issues, they can also override your decisions with that same understanding. If no mental health issue is known or found relevant, they cannot override your decisions. Case management and patient advocacy will help for many individuals. Some with more complex issues are best heard with medical advocates. Our voices aren’t heard because we don’t speak up. Our voices aren’t heard because we speak the truth.
