🌊 This July 4th, many in Kerr County and across Texas faced a different kind of storm—one that left homes destroyed, lives upended, and families grieving unimaginable loss.
Our hearts are with those mourning loved ones, with those still waiting for answers, and with everyone beginning the long road of recovery.
To the first responders, volunteers, and neighbors helping neighbors—you are the heartbeat of these communities. Your courage and compassion in the face of disaster cannot be overstated.
While Kerr County was hit the hardest, we recognize that multiple other areas were also deeply affected—including Travis, Kendall, Burnet, and Williamson counties. Each of these communities carries their own stories of loss, resilience, and recovery.
Even now, lifesaving and search efforts continue across these hard-hit regions. First responders and volunteers are working tirelessly, often in dangerous conditions, to bring loved ones home and ensure the safety of those still at risk.
As I watched these events unfold, it brought back haunting memories of Memorial Day weekend 2015, when the Blanco River rose overnight, sweeping away homes, livelihoods, and lives.
But here’s what I wish someone had told me back then:
💬 The physical cleanup is only part of the recovery. The emotional and psychological toll—the sleepless nights, the hypervigilance, the grief that lingers—can last far longer.
That’s why I’m launching a new series: When the River Rose.
We’ll explore the emotional phases of a disaster, the unseen weight survivors carry, and—most importantly—share tips and tools to help navigate the mental and emotional aftermath.
The first videos will follow soon—we don’t have a specific timeline yet, but they’re coming. In the meantime, if you’re struggling right now, here are a few small steps to help your nervous system and your body:
✅ Self-Hug Technique – calm your stress response quickly. https://youtube.com/shorts/ffP_919j-Qk?feature=share
✅ 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Exercise – reconnect to the present moment. https://youtube.com/shorts/IXdtvu4Zeik?feature=share
✅ 4x4 Box Breathing – lower anxiety and regain focus. https://youtube.com/shorts/cs5QkAx5XXE?feature=share
✅ And don’t forget the basics: rest when you can, drink water, eat nourishing food, and lean on your support network.
Because healing isn’t just individual—it’s collective. And no one should have to do it alone.
💬 Follow along as we talk about the storm after the storm—and how we find our way back.
