Black women need to hear this

Atlanta
3/20 Edited to

... Read moreAs a Black woman navigating the fast-paced demands of life, I’ve often found myself caught between too much noise, too many expectations, and too little time to truly rest. It’s not just about being tired; the feeling is deeper—it's overstimulation that saps our energy and peace. Recognizing this has been the first step toward healing for me. Overstimulation can stem from social pressures, career demands, family responsibilities, and the constant influx of information we absorb every day. When these accumulate, it becomes essential to create intentional spaces of rest and self-care. One effective way I've found relief is by embracing moments of stillness, no matter how brief. Setting aside even five minutes for deep breathing or meditation can help calm the mind and reduce sensory overload. Additionally, prioritizing boundaries—saying no to added commitments or digital distractions—has been crucial. Engaging with communities that understand these experiences, such as those found under hashtags like #blackwomenover40s and #softhealing, offers a sense of solidarity and shared wisdom. Hearing others voice similar feelings confirms that overstimulation is a common challenge, not a personal failing. Finally, tuning into the body’s signals—fatigue, tension, irritability—and honoring them by resting without guilt fosters long-term resilience. Overstimulation is a reminder that rest is revolutionary and necessary. By slowing down and pausing intentionally, Black women can reclaim their energy and nurture their well-being amidst life’s complexities.
