You were easier to love
when you stayed quiet.
When you didn’t ask for more.
When you made yourself smaller to keep the peace.
But healing changes that.
It asks you to speak.
To choose yourself.
To stop carrying what was never yours.
And not everyone will like that version of you.
That doesn’t mean you’re wrong.
It means you’re growing.
— The Gentle Pause
Healing is often misunderstood as simply feeling better or moving on, but in reality, it’s a transformative process that challenges us to rethink how we relate to ourselves and others. Many times, we find it's easier to keep quiet, to not ask for more, or to make ourselves smaller—all in the name of keeping peace or being ‘easier to love.’ However, true healing asks us to break out of these patterns. When I embarked on my own healing journey, I realized that upsetting people who once depended on my silence was an inevitable part of growth. It’s painful to disappoint others, especially those who may have benefited from my suppression, but it’s a necessary step toward reclaiming my voice and my boundaries. Healing means learning to say no, to prioritize yourself, and to carry only what belongs to you. Choosing yourself isn’t selfish—it’s a radical act of self-love. It’s about recognizing that your well-being comes first and that not everyone will accept or understand the new, empowered version of you. Sometimes, people may resist your growth because it challenges the status quo they were comfortable with. But that resistance doesn’t reflect your worth or validity; it only signals that you’re stepping into a stronger, more authentic version of yourself. Setting healthy boundaries is crucial here. Boundaries protect your energy and create space for healing to deepen. They allow you to interact with others in ways that honor your needs and feelings. Embracing boundaries helped me feel safer and more grounded in my relationships, even when it meant facing discomfort initially. If you're on a healing path, know that it's alright if not everyone embraces the changes you make. Healing is about growth, not approval. It’s about becoming whole and free from carrying burdens that were never yours to bear. Remember, healing is an ongoing process—a series of choices to listen to yourself, speak your truth, and cultivate the soft life you deserve after all the hard work.
