... Read moreFrom my personal observations and experience following U.S. political funding decisions, it’s clear that the allocations of government money reflect deeper values and priorities. For example, the Trump administration’s choice to spend $45 million on a military parade drew widespread criticism, especially when contrasted with reported shortages in funding for critical areas such as cancer research, healthcare services, and feeding hungry children.
This stark contrast raises the question: how do these budget choices impact everyday Americans? Many people, including myself and others I know, have felt the tangible effects of underfunded healthcare programs while witnessing large expenditures on events and military projects. The $150,000+ spent on numerous golf trips and the massive $4.4 trillion in total spending further illustrate that national spending is often skewed towards displays of power rather than immediate social needs.
Moreover, the expansion of ICE detention camps and increased military celebrations suggest a focus on symbolism and enforcement over welfare and research. Knowing friends involved in healthcare and social services, I’ve seen firsthand how budget cuts limit advancements and accessibility, undermining the quality of life for vulnerable populations.
If we want to see a shift toward a more balanced and equitable use of public funds, it’s important for citizens to stay informed, advocate for transparency, and support policies prioritizing health and well-being alongside national security.
