have you ever felt as though your “innocence” was under attack?
Jesus once said, we must “become like little children, otherwise we will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (matt. 18:3). interestingly enough, one of the most striking qualities of children is their innocence—their optimism and positive, untainted outlook on themselves and the world around them.
innocence matters deeply to God because it’s where freedom and faith take root. but those cannot flourish in a heart weighed down by pain, anger, or cynicism.
many of us have experienced moments when our innocence was assaulted by painful disappointments, broken trust, or traumatic experiences. the Father’s heart grieves over these things, but they’re not beyond His redemptive power.
Jesus was the innocent Lamb of God, and because of His sacrifice, innocence can be restored. take a moment to reflect on this truth: “by the blood of His cross, everything in heaven and earth is brought back to Himself—back to its original intent, restored to innocence again!” (col. 1:19-20, tpt).
now, grab a journal and write the words “innocence restored” at the top of a page. ask God to reveal areas where your childlike optimism may have been lost or wounded. invite Him to bring healing to those places and to renew your heart with faith, hope, and love. as you reflect, ask Him to help you see yourself—and the world around you—through His eyes, filled with wonder and unshakable optimism.
your innocence isn’t beyond restoration, friend. through Jesus, it can flourish again.
