My husband and I I had a choice, and we chose to bring Addy into this world. Liam and chels didn’t, yet they advocate for their sister in ways that they don’t even realize. They take extra time walking slower so she can go at her own pace, they explain to kids at the park that sometimes their sister plays differently, they go to school with a brave face knowing their sister is at the hospital, they speak for her when another child doesn’t understand that she can’t talk, they watch her tubing when she’s playing a little too rough, they celebrate at buddy walks and awareness events and they use sign language and addy’s AAC.

They’re also just siblings. They fight and they play and they get mad at each other and most of the time they don’t realize that they’re doing extra things to include their sister, because she’s just their sister. I am amazed every single day by the grace and compassion and empathy they hold that so many adults don’t even seem capable of.
