Harrison had a very successful sedated dentistry appointment. He got his teeth cleaned, had x rays done, a possible fibroma removed and sent for biopsy and four baby teeth extracted. He’s doing great and we are so blessed to have this level of care for him. #asd #autismacceptance #autismmom #momlife #dentist

... Read moreAs a parent of a child with autism, I understand how challenging dental visits can be. Sedated dentistry offers a calm and safe environment that significantly reduces anxiety and sensory overload during complex procedures. From my experience, the key to a successful appointment is finding a dental team experienced in autism care, who communicate clearly and provide patience throughout the process. Harrison's case illustrates how multiple treatments—such as cleaning, dental x-rays, fibroma removal, and extractions—can be managed effectively under sedation, allowing for comprehensive care in a single session. This approach minimizes repeated visits and discomfort for children who might struggle with typical dental visits. Parents considering sedated dentistry should discuss all options with their pediatric dentist, ensuring they understand the procedure, sedation methods, and recovery steps. It's also beneficial to prepare children by explaining what to expect in supportive, autism-friendly ways. Overall, sedated dental care can be a blessing for families navigating autism and dental health challenges. By providing compassionate, specialized care, dentists can help children like Harrison maintain good oral health with less stress for everyone involved.
