Just finished reading

The series was pretty good. I would recommend it, BUT FOR ME PERSONALLY? It wasn’t all that, that’s my opinion and can’t nobody tell me otherwise. I mean the flashbacks, the over explanations, the repeated comments & quotes. It was like “did I already read this chapter” moments for me because of that alone ? I almost DNF the series.

That’s my Ted Talk okay bye

... Read moreHaving recently completed The Dillinger Chronicles by Stee! Kimberly Brown, I found myself torn between appreciating the story and being frustrated by certain narrative elements. One aspect that stood out was the frequent use of flashbacks and the over-explanation of events, which made parts of the book feel repetitive. This literary choice can be a double-edged sword; while flashbacks are often used to deepen character development or clarify plot points, overdoing them risks disengaging readers who prefer a faster-paced story. From my experience, readers who appreciate detailed world-building and a slow reveal of the plot might find this style rewarding. However, those like me who favor a more straightforward narrative may find the repetition cumbersome. I noticed moments where I questioned if I had already read a section due to the repeated comments and quotes. This can interrupt the flow and even lead to considerations of abandoning the read. Despite these issues, I would still recommend the series to fans of Black authors and Kindle readers looking for something thought-provoking. The themes and character journeys are rich, even if the pacing and storytelling devices weren’t exactly to my taste. Everyone’s reading preference varies, so it’s worth giving this series a try if you enjoy layered storytelling with introspective moments. As a tip for potential readers, pace yourself and be prepared for a narrative that circles back at times. Embracing the author’s style might help you appreciate the depth intended. For anyone building their TBR (to be read) list, adding The Dillinger Chronicles could bring diversity and a fresh voice into your reading rotation.

I feel the same way it’s was not as good as I thought it would be, with the way people hyped it up I didn’t even get this far. I DNF Maceo I’ll revisit when I have nothing else to read I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️.
