If you struggle this can help

... Read moreIt's incredible how many different ways there are to tackle that gnawing feeling of restlessness and anxiety. When I first started experiencing it, I felt so lost, like I was constantly buzzing with nervous energy and my mind wouldn't switch off. The original post is spot on – it really is about trial and error to find what truly resonates with *you*. But sometimes, you need a starting point, right? So, I wanted to share some of the things that have personally helped me navigate those turbulent moments. One of the first things I learned to do was to ground myself. When my mind is racing and my body feels like it wants to run a marathon but I'm stuck, I try a simple breathing exercise. It's nothing fancy, just focusing on my breath. I inhale slowly, counting to four, hold for four, and exhale slowly for six. Doing this a few times can really help to signal to my nervous system that it's okay to calm down. It doesn't always make the anxiety disappear entirely, but it definitely takes the edge off and helps me feel more present. Another game-changer for me has been movement. Sometimes that restless energy just needs an outlet. I'm not talking about a full-on gym session, though that can be great too! For me, it might be a quick 10-minute walk around the block, just getting some fresh air and changing my environment. Or, if I can't go outside, I'll put on some music and just dance around my living room for a few minutes. It sounds silly, but that physical release helps burn off some of that nervous energy and often shifts my mood. I also found that having a few sensory distractions on hand can be surprisingly effective. When my mind is overwhelmed, engaging another sense can sometimes break the cycle. For instance, I love making a cup of calming herbal tea – the warmth in my hands, the scent, and the slow sipping can be very soothing. Or, I might listen to a specific playlist of ambient music that I've curated just for these moments. Sometimes, even just picking up a textured object and focusing on how it feels in my hand helps pull me out of my head. If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, try to savor the sweet taste of a small piece of dark chocolate or even a hard candy – focusing solely on the flavor can be a powerful anchor. Journaling has also become a powerful tool in my arsenal. When my thoughts are spiraling and I feel anxious, getting them out of my head and onto paper can be incredibly cathartic. I don't censor myself; I just write whatever comes to mind, no matter how chaotic it seems. Often, just seeing my worries written down helps me gain a bit of perspective and makes them feel less overwhelming. It's like emptying a cluttered drawer – things don't disappear, but they become more manageable. Finally, and this might be the most important, remember that it's okay to reach out. Whether it's talking to a trusted friend, a family member, or even a professional, sharing what you're going through can make a huge difference. You don't have to go through this alone. Finding what works for you is a journey, not a destination, and it's perfectly fine to lean on others for support along the way. Keep experimenting, keep trying new things, and be kind to yourself through the process.
