DC K.O. Batman KnightFight Battle of the Batmen
It’s New Comic Book Day!
Today I read Batman KnightFight, a tie-in to DC’s ongoing tournament event DC K.O. by Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, and Tríona Farrell.
⭐️Overall rating: 3.5/5: Williamson does a decent job establish a weird, unsettling landscape where Batman stumbles into a world where Nightwing has become an intense Batman. The ending plot twist was unexpected, but I feel like I know what will happen in the next 3 issues. Mora’s work in designing each Batmen’s look along with the round of Robins. Farrell’s colors are distinctive and energetic. Are you guys ready to see what happens to our Robins?
Picking up a new comic on NCBD is always a treat, and 'DC K.O. Knightfight #1' definitely delivered some unexpected punches! After diving into this tie-in for the 'DC K.O.' tournament, I've got to share more of my thoughts, especially about that killer plot twist that left me saying 'WTF?!' Joshua Williamson really throws you into a weird, unsettling landscape right from the start. What caught me most was seeing Nightwing in such a different light. He’s not just Nightwing anymore; he's become this incredibly intense version of Batman, and it makes you wonder what pushed him to that point. The dynamic between him and the original Batman is something I'm really keen to see unfold. It’s not just a physical fight; there's a deep psychological component to this 'Battle of the Batmen' that feels fresh and intriguing. And let’s talk about the art! Dan Mora's work is, as always, phenomenal. He manages to create distinct looks for each 'Batman' and all the Robins involved. You can really feel the weight and history behind each character design. The panels showing Batman with his sons – Nightwing, Red Hood, and the other Robins – truly capture that 'Batman LOVES HIS SONS' vibe, even amidst the chaos. It’s a stark contrast to the impending doom hinted at by the plot. Tríona Farrell's colors also play a huge role, giving the entire issue an energetic and distinctive feel that perfectly complements the unsettling narrative. Now, about that plot twist... without giving away too much, it genuinely took me by surprise. The original review mentioned I felt like I knew what was coming, but the way it was executed, especially with the implication of who might be responsible or what 'he' did wrong, completely flipped my expectations. This twist really leans into the 'KILLER PLOT TWIST (LITERALLY ...BECAUSE YOU KILLED THEM!)' vibe I saw in some of the previews. It makes you question everything you thought you knew about the 'DC K.O.' tournament and the fates of characters like Batman. Could this be leading to a potential 'Batman death dc ko' scenario, or is it a misdirection? The cliffhanger definitely has me anxious for the next issues. The comic also makes you think about the wider Bat-family. With 'ROBINS EVERYWHERE! TITANS AND BATFAM UNITE!', there’s a sense that the stakes are incredibly high for everyone. It’s not just Bruce or Dick; it’s about the entire legacy. I’m particularly interested to see how characters like Jason Todd (Red Hood), who is often involved in these darker storylines, will fit into this Knightfight. The panels I've seen of Nightwing's presence and Bruce's internal struggle, with 'BRUCE JUST TRYING TO DO WHATS RIGHT,' make me feel for them both. This issue has done a great job of setting up a truly epic and emotionally charged conflict. If you’re a fan of Batman and his world, and you’re ready for some serious twists and incredible art, you definitely need to pick this one up, even with my 3.5/5 rating. That rating isn't because it's bad, but because I'm eager to see if the next issues can stick the landing after such a strong, shocking opener!

The art is stunning, Mora really outdid himself with the character designs! Love the vibrant colors too.
