Yet another magical addition to Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson and Matías Bergara
The consequences of Diana’s magic is still coming after her. Sometimes in the form of everyone’s favorite sorceress Zatanna. Her pure magical form is just so cool. Her binding spell was wild to read. I love reading backwards, I know some people can’t, but I am always willing to translate. The form of the gods has been a joy across the series. Perfect depiction of Gaia. Are you excited to see absolute Batman meet Wonder Woman??
... Read moreWow, what an issue! Diving into 'Absolute Wonder Woman #14' truly left me spellbound, and I just had to share more of my thoughts beyond the initial review. This chapter really delivered, especially with the highly anticipated encounter between Diana and Zatanna, the legendary Mistress of Magic.
What struck me most was the incredible dynamic between these two powerful women. Zatanna, with her unique backward-speaking spells and undeniable charisma, truly lives up to her title. Seeing her in action, particularly that intense binding spell – you know, the one where the text reads 'Diana of the Wild Isle, Princess of Hell... I bind you to me while in my presence. Your voice is mine alone' – really highlighted the intricate nature of magic in this series. It wasn't just a battle; it felt like a dance of wills, a clash of different forms of power, leaving Wonder Woman's upper body with her hands bound by vines, a vivid image of her vulnerability.
And speaking of dynamics, I know many of us are drawn to the intriguing possibilities of 'Absolute Wonder Woman Yuri.' Personally, I couldn't help but notice the palpable tension and unique connection portrayed between Diana and Zatanna. The artists did an exceptional job, emphasizing 'Magic Yuri' through their expressive features – remember that panel of Zatanna lying on the ground surrounded by blue magical energy, looking so striking? There's a certain intimacy in their conflicts, a powerful resonance that goes beyond mere adversary. It’s not explicitly stated, but the subtext and the way their interactions are framed certainly invite such interpretations, adding a fascinating layer for readers who appreciate deeper character bonds.
Beyond the captivating character interactions, the exploration of magic's 'price' in this issue was profound. We glimpse Diana's pained expression as she grapples with the consequences of magic, a stark reminder that immense power often comes with significant burdens. This depth makes the fantastical elements feel grounded and relatable.
The artwork, as always, is a huge highlight. The depiction of Gaia as a massive, tree-like face formed from roots and foliage, delivering the stern 'YOU DO NOT BELONG HERE, DIANA OF THEMYSCIRA,' was absolutely breathtaking and perfectly captured her ancient power. And then, the brief but impactful appearance of Hecate, with her distinctive tattoos and stern expression, teasing 'IT'S THE MARK OF HECATE,' built even more anticipation for future magical threats. It’s these visual details that make the world of Absolute Wonder Woman feel so rich and alive.
The tease for 'NEXT: THE BATMAN!' at the end has me on the edge of my seat! What will his introduction mean for Diana and the magical chaos unfolding around her? I'm so excited to see how this incredible series continues to weave together epic battles, profound character moments, and hints of unexpected connections. If you haven't picked up 'Absolute Wonder Woman #14,' I highly recommend it. It’s a journey into magic, power, and perhaps, some truly unique relationships.
Zatanna's pure magical form is indeed so cool! I wonder if her spells are harder to cast when she's upside down?
