Say Goodbye to Birds of Prey

Yet another run I wish I didn’t have to say goodbye too, but that’s the way it goes. Issue 28 is brought to you, one last time, by Kelly Thompson and Sami Basri.

Thompson wraps up the final arc of Birds of Prey with a fun and emotional battle for our girls. I loved seeing the culminations between the different relationships. I mean, Sin and Meg were totally different later on and now she’ll do anything for her. Cass and Barda are as iconic as always. Glad to know it’s probably not the end forever, but I’ll miss it until the next run…which better happen soon. How do you guys feel?

Thompson’s storytelling in this finale encapsulates the strength of female friendship and resilience. Characters like Sin and Meg show remarkable development as their complex relationship evolves into deep loyalty, perfectly illustrating how people can transform and support one another over time. The pairing of Cass and Barda, described as iconic, highlights the importance of steadfast bonds through trials and triumphs, cementing their status as fan favorites. Additionally, the narrative tension around the disbanding of the Birds creates a poignant backdrop, making every battle and interaction carry emotional weight. Readers witness the group’s courage and vulnerability, which makes the storyline relatable beyond the superhero genre. The imagery of the group standing united despite their differences underscores themes of acceptance and strength in diversity. The references to characters like Mr. Miracle and the depiction of Sin and Meg as “peas in a pod” despite their apparent differences further deepen the complexity of the story. These elements remind readers that heroes face internal and external struggles, yet their bonds and bravery help them overcome adversity. The artwork complements these themes, with powerful scenes that showcase the emotional and physical stakes of the final arc.
