I'm 65.I don't need a damn pronoun!
As someone who has lived through decades of social and cultural change, I find the current focus on pronouns to be both interesting and perplexing. At 65, I've witnessed language evolve continuously, yet the idea of defining oneself strictly by pronouns feels unnecessary from my perspective. Many older adults might share this sentiment—valuing individuality and experience over labels that can feel imposed or transient. Using pronouns is important for many people as a way to express their identity, but it’s equally valid to simply be known by one's actions, history, and personal character rather than linguistic tags. I believe that self-expression should come from how one chooses to live, not what pronouns one prefers. Embracing this mindset has allowed me to focus on what truly matters: connections, respect, and authenticity. This reflection isn’t meant to diminish others' journeys with pronouns but to highlight that language and identity are deeply personal and can be experienced differently across generations. For many of us older folks, our sense of self isn’t tied to pronouns, but rather to a lifetime of experiences that define us far beyond any label. This perspective can help foster mutual respect and understanding among all generations navigating the evolving language of identity today.
