As a creative, I’m kind of embarrassed to say… this is my first time visiting the Detroit Institute of Arts 👀🫣.
Somehow I kept putting it off but I finally went, and I’m so glad I did. There’s something about being surrounded by other people’s creativity that wakes yours back up.
Sometimes inspiration isn’t about forcing yourself to create more. Sometimes you just need to get out of your normal environment and go LOOK at something. Experience something. Let your brain wander a little.
Needless to say, I’ll be going back with family and friends later this month! 😂
Consider this your reminder to go explore the gems sitting right in your own backyard 💎

Visiting a museum like the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) can be an unexpectedly powerful way to reignite your creative energy. I’ve experienced firsthand how immersing yourself in a collection of diverse artworks helps shift your perspective and invigorates your imagination. What makes the DIA special is not just the impressive range of paintings, sculptures, and cultural exhibits, but the atmosphere that encourages contemplation and appreciation of creativity across different periods and styles. When I first decided to go, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the moment I walked through the doors, I felt my mind unlocking new ways of thinking. Being surrounded by masterpieces from ancient times to modern day made me realize how art continually evolves, and how every piece tells a unique story. It reminded me that inspiration doesn’t need to come from within alone—it can come from soaking in others’ creativity. Taking time to explore places like DIA is also a gentle reminder that creativity isn’t about pushing hard all the time; sometimes, it’s about pausing and letting your brain wander freely. Visiting a local cultural spot helps break the monotony of daily routines, which often stifle creative flow. It’s a way to reset mentally without the pressure of producing immediately. For creatives or anyone looking to refresh their mindset, I highly recommend finding your local art museums or galleries. Even if you don’t consider yourself an art expert, experiencing various artistic expressions can spark ideas you never thought of before. And the best part? It’s often right in your backyard, waiting to be explored. Planning to return soon with friends and family to share this enriching experience. It’s amazing how something as simple as a museum visit can transform your outlook and fuel your creativity for weeks afterward. So don’t hesitate—go discover the gems around you and see what inspiration they unlock for you!
