Choosing me this time!

I have always been the type to make sure everyone else is happy. This time I’m putting that same energy and effort in myself. Not for likes and not for applause for PEACE #selflove #peace #feelingmyself🤪 #happiness

... Read moreReading this post really resonated with me! For so long, I felt like my purpose was to keep everyone else happy. It’s a common trap, isn't it? We get so used to pouring our energy into others that we forget to refill our own cup. The idea of 'choosing myself' felt revolutionary, almost selfish, at first. But what I've learned is that it's actually the most loving thing you can do – not just for yourself, but for everyone around you. So, what does 'starting to choose yourself' really look like? It's more than just saying 'no' sometimes. For me, it began with recognizing the subtle signs of burnout: feeling drained even after a full night's sleep, losing excitement for things I once loved, and a nagging sense of resentment building up. These were my wake-up calls, telling me it was time to shift focus. One of the biggest hurdles was the guilt. I worried people would think I was selfish, or that my relationships would suffer. But honestly, the opposite happened. When I started setting small boundaries, like saying no to an extra commitment when I was already overwhelmed, I found I had more genuine energy for the things I did commit to. My interactions became more authentic because I wasn't operating from a place of depletion. If you're ready to embark on this journey of putting yourself first, here are a few simple ways I started: Start Small with "No": Instead of taking on a huge task you don't want to do, practice saying 'no' to something small. Maybe it's declining an invitation you're not excited about, or simply stating, "I can't do that right now." It feels awkward at first, but like any muscle, it gets stronger with practice. Schedule Your "Me Time": Don't wait for free time to magically appear. Actively block out time in your calendar for yourself, whether it's 15 minutes for a quiet coffee, an hour for a walk, or a whole evening dedicated to a hobby. Treat these appointments with yourself as non-negotiable. Tune into Your Inner Voice: We often override our own needs to accommodate others. Take a moment each day to ask yourself, "What do I genuinely need right now?" It might be rest, nourishment, connection, or solitude. Learning to listen to and honor that voice is crucial. Practice Self-Compassion: The journey isn't linear. There will be days you slip back into old habits, and that's okay. Instead of criticizing yourself, acknowledge the effort you're making and gently redirect. This isn't about perfection; it's about progress. Redefine "Selfish": True self-care isn't selfish; it's self-preservation. When you're well-rested, happy, and fulfilled, you have so much more to give to others without depleting yourself. It creates a positive ripple effect in all areas of your life. Embracing this path of choosing myself has brought a profound sense of peace and a deeper, more authentic happiness. It’s a continuous practice, but one that truly transforms your life for the better. You deserve to pour that same love and energy into yourself!
