This one is for my people pleasers, over-givers, and soft hearts… being kind is beautiful, but being overly accessible without boundaries will drain you. That was my lesson.
I used to overcompensate with kindness, compliments, and over-giving & it cost me. 🤌🏽
Here are 5 things I had to learn to protect my peace, energy, and softness. Save this 🤍
From personal experience, I’ve found that being kind and excessively giving can sometimes invite imbalance in relationships. Initially, I thought that the more warmth and compliments I offered, the stronger my connections would be. However, I quickly learned that without clear boundaries, this kindness can be taken for granted or even exploited. One crucial lesson is to avoid being instantly accessible to everyone. When I first started practicing this, it felt uncomfortable — like I was shutting people out. But over time, I realized that not everyone deserves immediate access to my energy or personal space. It’s not about being cold; it’s about self-respect and preserving my emotional well-being. Oversharing too quickly is another pitfall. I used to share my goals and personal stories with new acquaintances to build trust, but I noticed that not all responded with reciprocal vulnerability. Now, I take time to observe and match the level of openness gradually. It protects me from emotional burnout and keeps relationships more balanced. Also, I pay attention to consistency — whether someone's words match their actions and how they treat others beyond just me. This reflection helps me identify genuine connections instead of draining ones. Protecting your resources, such as ideas, time, and connections, is also vital. I no longer give away these freely; instead, I reserve them for those who truly value and reciprocate. Lastly, patience is key. Initial sweetness can be deceiving, and true character often reveals itself over time. By letting time unveil who is worthy of your energy, you strengthen your peace and emotional softness without sacrificing your kindness. Remember, setting boundaries isn’t about losing warmth, but about protecting what makes your kindness sustainable and genuine.
