Happy New Years!

Life with a family, especially as a SAHM, is wonderfully chaotic and beautifully unpredictable! That's precisely why, when I sat down to create our 2025 monthly activity list, my biggest focus was on finding truly realistic and fun ideas. What does 'realistic' mean to me when planning a whole year of memories? It means activities that won't break the bank, don't require days of intricate preparation, and can adapt gracefully to last-minute changes in mood or weather. For instance, instead of always planning elaborate outings, we often opt for simple joys like a 'Netflix binge' with popcorn or a lively game of 'Uno,' which are easy to pull off any time. Being realistic also means being smart about our budget. Many of our planned activities, like 'make heart shaped cookies' for Valentine's Day or hosting an 'outdoor movie night' in the summer, utilize things we already have or involve inexpensive ingredients. Even our 'Fall bucket list' includes fantastic free options, such as simply going out to 'crunch through the leaves' – pure autumn delight! I always try to strike a balance between bigger, more planned events, like heading to a 'baseball game,' and plenty of free or very cheap options sprinkled throughout the year. Another key to making these monthly activities realistic is ensuring they're age-appropriate for everyone, or at least easily adaptable. For example, an 'Easter dessert' can be a simple decorating task for little ones, while older kids might tackle baking from scratch. I've found that involving my children in the planning makes a huge difference too. When they help choose from ideas like creating a 'Spring bucket list' or deciding the theme for our 'Halloween Themed Brunch,' they become much more invested and excited about the upcoming activities. This shared ownership truly helps keep everyone engaged and makes the whole process more enjoyable. Now, for the 'fun' part! For our family, fun comes from connection, creativity, and the joy of creating lasting memories together. It's not about striving for perfection in every activity. We love leaning into the seasons – 'Create sun catchers for your windows' in May, hosting a '4th of July BBQ' in July, or 'Carve A Jack 'O Lantern' in October. Even simple things like reading a 'Christmas story before bed every night' in December become cherished rituals that foster togetherness. We also make sure to sprinkle in plenty of movement and creative expression throughout the year, from having an impromptu 'dance party' in the living room to trying a 'drawing class' or even working together to 'Build a birdhouse.' Remember, this list, much like my own 2025 family plan, is a guide, not a rigid schedule to be stressed over. If a 'Make a Heart-shaped pizza' night falls through because someone's not feeling well, we embrace flexibility. Maybe a planned 'go on a coffee date' becomes a spontaneous morning treat at home instead. The ultimate goal is enriching family time and building connections, not rigidly checking off every single box.
