The lifeguard took 2 business days to save him 🤣
Swimming
You know that feeling when you finally make it to the pool? The anticipation, the chlorine smell, the promise of a refreshing dip. For me, swimming is usually my go-to for clearing my head and getting some good exercise. But sometimes, the universe, or in this case, the pool staff, has other plans for your zen moment. I was just casually doing my laps, minding my own business, when I saw something that just cracked me up. It wasn't me needing saving, thankfully, but it looked like someone else might have needed a quick assist. And let me tell you, the lifeguard on duty seemed to be operating on a whole different time zone. I swear, it was like they were calculating the actuarial tables before making a move. 'Two business days to save him,' I joked to myself, and honestly, it felt pretty accurate! It wasn't a real emergency, thankfully, but it got me thinking about the amazing, sometimes bizarre, world of the public pool. It's like a microcosm of society, isn't it? You have the serious lap swimmers, cutting through the water like Olympic hopefuls. Then there are the splashers, the kids cannonballing, completely oblivious (or uncaring) about the person trying to perfect their backstroke. And let's not forget the seniors doing their gentle water aerobics, often with more enthusiasm than anyone else there! The lifeguards, bless their hearts, are the silent guardians of this aquatic ecosystem. Most of the time, they're vigilant, scanning the waters with hawk-like precision. But then you get those moments, like the one I witnessed, where you wonder if they're perhaps contemplating the meaning of life, or maybe just what they're having for dinner. It's all in good fun, of course, and I'm sure they're ready when it truly counts. But it makes for some hilarious observations. Sometimes, I think about the unwritten rules of the pool. The unspoken hierarchy of the lanes, the subtle nods of acknowledgment between regulars, the universal understanding of 'don't make eye contact with the person spitting water out of their mouth.' It's a whole social dance, set to the rhythmic sound of splashing and the distant whistle. Despite the occasional 'business days' approach to saving, or the rogue cannonball, swimming remains one of my favorite ways to unwind. It’s a great workout, and sometimes, it provides the best material for a good laugh. You just have to go in with an open mind and be ready for anything – even if 'anything' takes a couple of days to resolve! What are your funniest pool stories?
