I don’t take my own advice but that’s a story for another time:)
As a content creator, I’ve realized that one of the most overlooked yet crucial steps in video production is proofreading — and yes, that includes reviewing all on-screen text, captions, and subtitles. The phrase from the OCR, “Do us all a favor and proofread your videos,” really resonates with my experience. Even though I often skip this step myself, when I do take the time to proofread, it makes a massive difference in the final product. Proofreading videos isn’t just about catching spelling errors; it’s about ensuring your message is clear and professional. Misspelled words or awkward phrasing can distract viewers and diminish your credibility. Additionally, poorly checked subtitles or captions can cause confusion, especially for those who rely on them to fully understand the content. From my experience, reading through the script and watching the video with fresh eyes—sometimes after a break—helps me spot mistakes I previously missed. I also encourage using tools or asking a friend for feedback, as an external perspective can catch nuances you might overlook. Ultimately, proofreading videos elevates the quality and engagement of your content. It’s a small investment of time that builds trust with your audience, leading to better reception and potential growth. Even if it feels tedious, making proofreading a regular part of your video process will pay off, and your viewers will definitely notice the difference.
