... Read moreStepping into Ghana as a solo woman was truly an experience that reshaped my perspective. From the moment I landed, the vibrant energy and welcoming smiles made me feel right at home, far beyond what any guidebook could describe. It's not just about the sights; it's about connecting with the heart of Ghana, especially as a woman exploring its rich tapestry. One of my most cherished memories was observing local women engaged in daily life. I saw a dedicated woman expertly using a large wooden mortar and pestle outdoors, a timeless tradition that’s still very much alive. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women, who contribute so much to their communities. I even tried my hand at it – much harder than it looks! Interacting with them, learning about their routines, and sharing laughs over fresh coconut water provided an authentic glimpse into their world. The sense of community and mutual support is palpable, making a solo journey feel less solitary and more like an extended family visit. Beyond the personal interactions, I was fascinated by the Adinkra Symbols I saw everywhere – on fabrics, pottery, and even architecture. Learning about Ghanaian Adinkra symbols and their meanings, like 'Sankofa' (learning from the past) or 'Gye Nyame' (except God), gave me a deeper appreciation for the wisdom embedded in their culture. These symbols often carry powerful messages that resonate deeply, especially when thinking about personal growth and navigating new experiences as a woman traveler. It's incredible how much history and philosophy can be conveyed through art. Now, let's talk about the weather, because it's a huge part of the Ghana experience! My phone's weather widget often showed Kumasi, Ghana hovering around a balmy 95 degrees, and Ejisu Municipal, Ghana wasn't far behind at 89 degrees, feeling even warmer under the intense sun. Planning for the Ejisu weather is crucial. My top tip: pack light, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are non-negotiable. I also found that staying hydrated with plenty of water and fresh fruit, especially the abundant sweet coconut water, was essential to staying energized throughout the day. Don't underestimate the humidity; it can make the temperatures feel even higher! While the heat might seem daunting, it also means lush greenery and beautiful sunny days, perfect for exploring. I loved seeing the local boys in their school uniforms, diligently heading to class, a small but heartwarming detail of daily life. The warm climate lends itself to a relaxed pace, encouraging you to slow down, savor the moments, and truly immerse yourself in the surroundings. Whether you're exploring the bustling markets, learning traditional crafts, or simply enjoying the hospitality, Ghana offers an unforgettable journey for any woman seeking adventure and cultural depth.

So on this day hubby is teaching me about the electric system here in Ghana. It’s very different than in the US. It’s pretty much a prepay system. You decide how much money you will add to your account. In the meantime you make that money last by managing how much energy you will use daily. The box
