Why there‘s never a lesson about credit score?

When did adult life become a credit score nightmare? Renting an apartment? Check your credit. New phone plan? Credit. Car insurance? Some jobs? Credit again. I always thought credit was just for loans or buying a house… not for literally everything.

I’ve been trying to adult the “right way” — budgeting, paying bills on time, not spending more than I have — but apparently none of that counts if it’s not reported somewhere. The other day I got denied for an apartment… not bad credit, just no credit history. 😭

It’s wild that being responsible with your money can actually work against you. No one really teaches you this stuff, and you only learn when it slaps you in the face.

How did you learn to navigate the credit world without losing your mind?

Luckily for my husband and I we learned early and by mistake. When cards 1st came out the lady in the store filled the app out. I was 17. She said when I got the bill they would tell me how much to pay. Never got a bill so I never paid. My husband put 8n for a Sears card when he 1st went to college. His mother took it,put herself on it,charged it up and never paid. I was able to get mine off because I was a minor when it was opened We got the ca4d taken out of his name by using a provision of the card.I told them we would report it lost or stolen and they could get $50 or they could put it in his mother's name and get $800. They chose the latter. From then on,we knew credit was important.
