One of the things I was most eager to discover was the heart of the country – its people. I’d heard so many wonderful things, but nothing beats experiencing it firsthand. My very first interactions were at the airport and then getting to my accommodation. And honestly, the warmth is palpable. Colombian people are incredibly welcoming and genuinely friendly. It feels like everyone you meet is ready to offer a smile or a helping hand, even if there's a language barrier. I've noticed a real sense of community and generosity. It's not just politeness; there’s a deeper, sincere curiosity about you and a willingness to share their culture. One thing that truly stands out is their passion for life. Whether it’s their music, their food, or simply a conversation, there's an energy that's infectious. The way they express themselves, their gestures, and their vibrant conversations are just captivating. I've also observed a strong emphasis on family values. It's beautiful to see how connected and supportive families are here, often gathering for meals and celebrations. Before coming, I might have had some preconceived notions, but they've quickly been replaced by real experiences. For example, some might expect a very fast-paced, bustling environment, but while cities are lively, there's also a relaxed, 'go with the flow' attitude that's refreshing. And the style! I've spotted some really unique local fashion, even things that look like a 'DES MENORTA' type of design, which just adds to the vibrant street aesthetic. If you're planning a visit, I'd definitely recommend engaging with the locals. Try out your Spanish, even if it's just a few phrases – they truly appreciate the effort. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations; you'll often end up finding the best hidden gems, whether it's a local coffee shop or a fantastic spot for dancing. They are proud of their country, and rightly so! Overall, my journey so far has been an incredible immersion into Colombian culture, largely thanks to the wonderful people I've encountered. It just reinforces that the best way to understand a place is through its inhabitants. I can't wait to see what other amazing experiences and connections await me here!
