Uh oh… I’m feeling better but my voice is actually hoarse as an older deepened voice I’m probably going to have a deep voice later on replacing my voice that I carried for 3 decades honestly I’m gonna miss that voice if it actually goes away and I start getting a man voice… but I do know I cannot be young forever, no matter how much I want to stay young forever!!
As we age, it's quite common for the voice to change—often becoming deeper and sometimes hoarser. This transformation can feel unsettling, especially when you've been used to a certain vocal tone for many years. From my own experience, the shift to a more masculine, mature voice can feel like losing a part of your identity. However, understanding that this change is a natural part of aging helps in embracing it rather than resisting it. Voice deepening occurs because of physiological changes in the vocal cords and larynx as we get older, influenced by factors such as hormonal shifts, muscle tone reduction, and tissue elasticity changes. It’s important to note this doesn't mean the end of expressiveness or vocal richness; it’s simply a new phase. To adapt, I found it helpful to practice voice care techniques such as staying hydrated, avoiding strain, and incorporating gentle vocal exercises. These helped maintain vocal strength and clarity despite deepening. Additionally, accepting that your voice reflects your life’s journey — including the wisdom and experiences gained — makes the change a unique and personal evolution worth celebrating. Remember, while youthful qualities are cherished, embracing natural changes like a deepened voice allows you to connect more authentically with yourself and those around you. Aging brings a dignified tone, both literally and figuratively, and learning to appreciate this can be a fulfilling part of growing older.
