Sometimes when I'm really anxious or when I'm dreading something, I do an exercise where I take a mental trip somewhere. I refer to these mental locations as my "safe places". Psychologists refer to this stress reduction technique as "guided imagery". Many may need to connect with a certain place from their past, but I, personally, find it easier to imagine a new location.
