... Read moreOkay, fellow BSD enthusiasts, can we just take a moment to collectively say, 'SORRY ATSUSHI'?! Seriously, after watching countless episodes and reading the manga, I often find myself feeling for our beloved Atsushi Nakajima. It's like his life is a constant loop of 'and it was all a dream... and you have a loving family... THAT WAS A DREAM. UR STILL POOR!!!' It's heartbreakingly hilarious sometimes, right? I mean, think about it. From the very beginning, Atsushi's life has been a whirlwind of challenges. Kicked out of the orphanage, constantly battling his inner demons (the tiger!), and then thrown into the chaotic world of the Armed Detective Agency. Just when he thinks he's found a place, a family, and some semblance of peace, something new comes along to shake his world up. That feeling of finally belonging, only for it to be constantly tested or threatened, is so real. It’s the ultimate 'dream vs. reality' check, and honestly, it makes him one of the most relatable characters in Bungo Stray Dogs. His journey of self-acceptance, learning to control his powers, and finding his self-worth is something many of us can connect with. We've all had those moments where we feel like we're just surviving, questioning our abilities, or wondering if we truly belong. Atsushi embodies that struggle so perfectly. He's not always the strongest or the most confident, but his resilience and kindness shine through, even when facing terrible odds. Think about how many times he’s been put in impossible situations, forced to make impossible choices, all while still grappling with the trauma of his past. It's truly a testament to his character that he continues to fight for what's right. One of the things I love about Atsushi is his unwavering loyalty and desire to protect others. Despite everything he's been through, he still wants to do good. Whether it's saving Kyouka, standing up to Akutagawa despite their complex rivalry, or trying to understand Dazai's often cryptic guidance, his heart is always in the right place. It’s hard not to root for someone who tries so hard, even when life keeps hitting them with 'UR STILL POOR!!!' moments, metaphorically speaking, whether it's regarding his finances, his emotional state, or just general bad luck. He’s the kind of character who makes you want to cheer him on from the sidelines. His dynamic with other characters also highlights his struggles. His constant push and pull with Akutagawa, for example, is a perfect illustration of two sides of the same coin, both haunted by their pasts but choosing different paths. And then there's Dazai, who sees something special in Atsushi, but whose methods of mentorship often involve throwing him into the deep end, which certainly contributes to his 'sorry' state! What are your thoughts? Do you feel the same way about Atsushi's constant 'reality checks'? What's your favorite Atsushi moment where he overcomes his struggles, even if it's just for a little while before the next challenge arrives? Are there any specific episodes or manga chapters where you felt particularly 'SORRY ATSUSHI'? I'd love to hear how you connect with his character and what makes him stand out for you in the BSD universe. Let's pour one out for Atsushi and his never-ending journey!
