Logline: Notorious mobsters Cuphead and Mugman repo the souls of the city’s toonfolk to repay an age-old debt.

Description: Inkwood is the city of animation; where different Clubs (mob families) recruit toons to create art and music with only one goal in mind: be the best animation club in all of Inkwood. Cuphead and Mugman work as assassins for the Devil’s Club. Under the Devil’s nefarious contract; they must repo the souls of the city’s debtors OR give up their souls for good. The Devil’s son Bendy, having abandoned Inkwood to pursue law in New Toonland, is reluctant to assume his Father’s position as head of his Club. Enemy Clubs (the Sanrio Club, Warner Club, Mouse Club, etc.) prepare to take over the Devil’s club (and Cuphead & Mugman’s infamous debts) if Bendy doesn’t step up to the plate. Bendy can’t afford to lose such great assets — and such old friends.

... Read moreAs a fan of unique animation universes and creative mashups, I found the Inkwood AU to be a refreshing take on beloved characters like Cuphead and Mugman. The setting—a vibrant blend of Cartoon Hollywood and 1930s New York—offers a rich backdrop for storytelling that combines nostalgia with fresh intrigue. The mafia drama angle adds layers of complexity, showcasing the characters in morally grey roles that deepen their personalities far beyond their original playful designs. The idea of different animation Clubs acting like mob families is fascinating because it mirrors real historical rivalries but with a playful twist. This provides ample scope for dramatic tension and dynamic character interactions, especially with the Devil’s Club orchestrating the soul repossession missions. I particularly appreciate how Bendy’s subplot introduces struggles with legacy and leadership, a relatable theme that adds emotional depth. The artwork by Aquatic Gal really captures the noir aesthetic, mixing dark moods with vintage cartoon charm. It’s impressive how the comic dub format expands the narrative experience, using voice and sound to enhance immersion. Anticipating the release on various platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram reels will give fans multiple ways to engage and join the community. For those who enjoy action-packed romantic crossovers and stories with high stakes in an animated universe, Inkwood AU seems like a must-watch series. It also invites viewers to think about themes like debt, loyalty, and the cost of power—all wrapped in stylized animation inspired by early cartoons. Following @THEROSETTASUN socials will be a great way to stay updated on episode drops and behind-the-scenes content.
