Korean tourism is the fastest growing in the world.
According to Telegraph Travel, analyzing the data of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in 2024, South Korea welcomed more than 16.3 million foreign visitors, up to XXXL% from the previous year, and reached 94% of the number of tourists before the 2019 outbreak, resulting in South Korea surpassing Japan and Vietnam as the countries with the highest tourism growth in the world.
Chinese tourists remain the main group, popularly arriving for duty-free shopping and visiting the filming locations of the Korean series; most recently, the South Korean government announced a temporary visa exemption for group tours from China starting on September 29 to encourage international travel.
However, South Korea is beginning to face the challenge of "tourist overflow," particularly in popular tourist attractions such as Seoul's Buk Chon Hanok Village and Jeju Island, which has resulted in complaints of noise, rubbish and privacy violations by local residents.
