Trump Medal! Celebrating 250 Years Public
On Friday (Oct. 3), the U.S. Treasury Department unveiled the first design draft of a special edition $1 coin, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation's Declaration of Independence, with an image of President Donald Trump as the main element of the coin.
One side of the coin appears a side image of Trump, with the words "Liberty," "In God we trust" (We believe in God), and the years "1776-2026," referring to the period from the year of the United States' founding to its 250th anniversary.
On the other side is an image of Trump holding his right fist, with the background of the U.S. flag. On top of the coin is the text "Fight, fight, fight" (fight, fight), the first quote he uttered immediately after surviving the assassination incident during a campaign speech in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. The section below contains the text "United States of America" (United States) and "E pluribus unum" (of many becoming one) directed on it.
A Treasury spokesman stated, "Despite extreme leftists squeezing the government into a shutdown, the facts are clear that, under President Donald J.Trump's historic leadership, our country is moving on to a 250th anniversary agenda stronger, wealthier and better than ever before," adding, "Although no final form of the 250th Anniversary Celebration Medal has yet been selected, this first draft reflects the U.S. spirit of democracy that still stands even in the face of great obstacles."
However, the Washington Post reports that U.S. law generally prohibits the use of live portraits on currency, and the 2020 law approving the production of this coin also prohibits the use of portraits on the back of coins.
