October 18, 2025 - Ankna Neelapaijit, a senator, and Sunthai Phraksuk, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch, submit to Major General Emeritus of State Petch, the National Police Commissioner (Director), asking for the implementation of human rights protection laws after being violently attacked and intimidated through online media.
Ms. Ankna revealed that she and Mr. Suthai were threatened after commenting on a television program about opening up martial law areas to private action, accused of being "unpatriotic" and life-threatening, including racist words such as "Are you Khmer?" which she insisted was Thai and patriotic, and called on the state to build an understanding of human rights in Thai society.
The latter has been an issue in the media. The police director has ordered the deployment of local and undercover police officers to take care of security at her Ankna residence 24 hours a day since October 16. However, she stressed that despite the threat, she would continue to serve as a human rights worker, criticizing the state power's failure to protect this worker.
While not as protected as Ankna, he faces constant social media threats, pointing out that his criticisms are based on empirical evidence, not uninformed speech, reiterating that all words stem from good intentions for the nation and efforts to preserve Thailand's image on the world stage, but become a channel for attacks and witch hunts, creating a wave of violent hatred.

การคุกคามและข่มขู่ผ่านสื่อออนไลน์ต่อบุคคลที่ทำงานด้านสิทธิมนุษยชน กลายเป็นประเด็นที่น่ากังวลอย่างยิ่งในปัจจุบัน โดยเฉพาะนักสิทธิมนุษยชนที่ออกมาแสดงความเห็นหรือวิพากษ์วิจารณ์เกี่ยวกับนโยบายหรือเหตุการณ์ทางสังคมซึ่งมีความอ่อนไหว เช่น กรณีการเปิดพื้นที่กฎอัยการศึกให้เอกชนเข้าดำเนินการในพื้นที่ใกล้ชายแดนไทยกัมพูชา ซึ่งอาจถูกมองต่างมุมและถูกโจมตีในเชิงลบอย่างรุนแรง สำหรับการข่มขู่ที่มีทั้งการเรียกด้วยถ้อยคำเหยียดเชื้อชาติ เช่นคำถาม "มึงเป็นคนเขมรหรือเปล่า" และการข่มขู่ถึงชีวิต เป็นการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชนขั้นพื้นฐาน ส่งผลต่อความปลอดภัยและสภาพจิตใจของผู้ถูกคุกคาม นอกจากนี้ยังสะท้อนถึงปัญหาความเข้าใจผิดและขาดความรู้ความเข้าใจเรื่องสิทธิมนุษยชนในสังคมไทย ซึ่งจำเป็นต้องได้รับการแก้ไขอย่างจริงจังจากภาครัฐและสาธารณะ นอกจากการได้รับการคุ้มครองโดยตรงจากเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจแล้ว รัฐควรเร่งส่งเสริมการสร้างความรู้และความเข้าใจเรื่องสิทธิมนุษยชนในระดับประชาชนทั่วไป เพื่อป้องกันการสร้างบรรยากาศความเกลียดชังและรุนแรงในสังคม ตลอดจนส่งเสริมการทำงานของนักสิทธิมนุษยชนให้ได้รับการยอมรับและเคารพในฐานะผู้ขับเคลื่อนสังคมที่สำคัญ และไม่ควรถูกมองว่าเป็นภัยหรือศัตรูของชาติ กรณีนี้จึงเป็นสัญญาณเตือนว่าสังคมไทยยังต้องพัฒนาด้านสิทธิมนุษยชนอย่างต่อเนื่อง พร้อมทั้งรับมือกับปัญหาการล่าแม่มดผ่านโซเชียลมีเดียที่สร้างความเกลียดชังและบ่อนทำลายความมั่นคงของบุคคลและสถาบันต่าง ๆ ด้วยวิธีการที่ไม่ถูกต้อง การส่งเสริมความเข้าใจต่อสิทธิมนุษยชนอย่างแท้จริงจะช่วยลดความขัดแย้งและสร้างสังคมที่สงบสุขและเป็นธรรมมากขึ้น
